Make a Difference! Get Involved!
Here’s Why
USCRI Participates –
USCRI’s mission is to address the needs and rights of persons in forced or voluntary migration worldwide by advancing fair and humane public policy, facilitating and providing direct professional services, and promoting the full participation of migrants in community life.
You should Participate –
Those born abroad who come to the United States as refugees and immigrants are a vital, valued national resource. They bring talent and diversity that enriches our communities and strengthens our nation. You can be an active participant in welcoming these newcomers and helping them to succeed as aspiring and new Americans. You can make a difference in their well-being and prosperity, and that of the community you share.
Here’s How
USCRI Participates –
One way that USCRI participates is through our National Programs. USCRI’s National Programs help refugees and immigrants across the United States to rebuild their lives and contribute to their communities. USCRI provides an array of services that support refugees and immigrants as they strive to become fully integrated, active participants in U.S. society.
USCRI currently implements these National Programs:
- Reception and Placement Program
- Matching Grant Program
- Refugee Family Strengthening Programs
- Food and Nutrition Outreach Program
- Financial Literacy Program
- Partnership for Citizenship Program
- Preferred Communities Program
- Burundian Refugees Program
- Disabled Refugee Program
You can Participate
There are many different ways that you can play an essential role in welcoming newcomers and in helping them to settle in the U.S. Here are just a few:
Learn and Stay Informed – Visit USCRI’s website often to stay abreast of developments, get current facts and historical trends, learn what others are doing, and hear refugees and immigrants tell their stories.
Tell Others – Tell family, friends, colleagues, and classmates what you are learning through participating. Many Americans are eager to know more about refugees and are interested in getting more involved. You can serve as a source of information and inspiration that encourages others to participate.
Employ a refugee or immigrant – If you are a business owner or employee, do what you can to open jobs to refugees and immigrants. They are among the most dedicated and hard-working members of our workforce; they add diversity and talent from which both colleagues and customers can benefit.
Speak Out – Join others in advocating to ensure that through its refugee resettlement programs and immigration policies the United States remains a world leader in offering safety and opportunity to those who have been forced from their home country.
Make a Contribution – Donate money or goods. You can donate funds to USCRI that go directly to support the services that we provide to refugees. You can also donate items essential to success in the U.S. such as clothing, books, used cell phones or computers.
Volunteer
There are innumerable ways to donate your time and talent to help refugees and immigrants adjust to life in the U.S. You can drive an elderly refugee to an appointment, help a refugee child with school lessons, teach immigrants computer skills, or guide aspiring new Americans as they prepare for, earn, and celebrate U.S. citizenship.
Here’s Where
USCRI Participates
USCRI implements programs and services through our National Network of partners and allies. The community-based organizations of USCRI’s network have been serving refugees and immigrants for nearly a century. Our partners help refugees to meet a range of needs when they first arrive, and continue to serve as their guide to life in the U.S.– to learning English, finding employment, and, eventually, earning American citizenship.
You can Participate
Regardless of where you live or what lifestyle you lead, you can find an easy, convenient way to be an active participant in the lives of refugees and immigrants in the U.S. Here are just a few:
In your home – You and your family can participate by using the USCRI website to learn about the experiences of refugees and immigrants and stay abreast of the laws and policies that govern U.S. treatment of refugees and immigrants. You can also use the Web site to advocate for the just treatment of refugees and immigrants in the U.S. and around the world.
At your workplace – Over lunch or coffee, you can share what you know and why you care about refugees and immigrants with your colleagues. You can let your personnel department know that hiring refugees and immigrants is a good way to bring diversity, fresh talent and dedication to your place of business.
In your community – You can bring people together for an event featuring the food, art, dance, and music that the refugees and immigrants have brought to your community. Such an event entertains, inspires, and prompts others to participate.
?At a USCRI partner agency – USCRI’s community-based partners are always seeking the participation of committed volunteers who want to make a difference. You can donate time, skills and other resources and show that you care by contacting the USCRI partner agency within our National Network and offering to participate.
